Wanaka city is situated on the big Wanka Lake at the heart of the “southern lakes”, at the south west part of the South Island. The city is situated in a basin created by glaciers and it is the exit point for Mount Aspiring tour.
Wanaka is mostly famous for it excellent ski resorts, but also offers many other things to do.
Mount Aspiring
Mount Aspiring reserve surrounding Mount Aspiring that rise up to 3,027 meters. It is one of the tallest mountains out of Mount Cook area and with no doubt one of the nicest of them. The park is part of the World Heritage Area announced in South-west New Zealand.
It is possible to go on a one-day trek up Rob-Roy valley to the beautiful Rob-Roy glacier. This track is considered as one of the most beautiful one-day trek in New Zealand.

The route
The track length is 12 km and it is circular. The trail to the glacier goes up and the way back is going down. It takes about 4 hours to complete it.
Getting There
To get to the starting point of the trail, you need to drive 50 km from Wanaka ,west on Glendhu Bay Road until the parking lot of the park.
Puzzling World
Stuart Landsborough’s Puzzling World is located on the main road, 2 km north to Wanaka city. The museum was established in 1973 and contains weird buildings and variety of optical illusion rooms.
The “Big Maze” is a three-dimension maze with 1.5 km of confusing passes spread on 2 floors. This maze is the first three-dimension in the world. The maze might seem easy but is definitely a challenge. However it is not built to be the most difficult maze in the world and between 30 minutes to 1 hour is sufficient timing to complete it. It is fun to go back being a child!
