Angkor Wat is the biggest among the temples in Angkor area in Cambodia and is considered to be the biggest religious structure in the world. Angkor?s temples are the heart and soul of Cambodia. Today this incredible temple is one of the main attractions in Angkor and is considered to be one of the main archeological sites in the world.

Angkor Wat temple is also the most preserved temple among Angkor?s temples, since it has never been completely deserted.

Angkor Wat was probably built as a grave temple for king Suryavarman II that ruled in years 1112-1152.

Getting to Angkor Wat

The visit in Angkor area should be started by watching the sunrise at Angkor Wat. It is recommended to dedicate to this temple at least half a day, and it is definitely worthwhile coming back to watch sunset that colors the temple in red. Each time I have returned to the temple, I discovered many things which I haven?t seen during previous visits, so as said it is definitely worthwhile returning there!

Tip ? Almost all tourists arrive to see Angkor in sunrise. All of them are entering from the main entrance, the western. Yet, Angkor Wat has a back entrance, an eastern, that goes through trees? boulevard until reaches the temple. There are two advantages in this entrance: the first entrance to the temple is done quietly, with no flock of tourists around. In addition this entrance enables the visitor to see at the beginning only the temple?s main tower between the trees, and slowly as walking towards the temple, it appears to the viewer with its full glory.
