Negros - The Philippines Travel Information


A great place to take a stop and relax is the beautiful beaches of the island of Negros, and the Kooko?s Nest lodge in particular. Diving enthusiast can enjoy some great diving spots, along with a relaxing atmosphere and a beautiful beach.

Bacolod
Bacolod is a relatively large city (over 400,000 inhabitants). The city itself is not very interesting, but the are has some interesting to see and do when you do get to Bacolod.

Endangered species preservation site
When in Bacolod, don?t miss a visit to the endangered species preservation site operated by the Negros Forests & Ecological Foundation, which houses many of Negros? endangered wild life. Since about 97% of the Negros forests are gone, this is maybe the last refuge for these animals.
You can see a variety of species, some very rate, but it is a hard thing to see these beautiful animals inside cages.

Silay
The city of Silay is about 14km north of Bacolod. The city has many old houses, and an interesting cathedral (San Diego Cathedral). Some of the old houses were turned into family museums. You can reach Silay as a day trip from Bacolod.

Dumaguete
The city of Dumaguete is the capital of South Negros. The city itself is not very interesting, but it is worth a stop for the beautiful beaches in the area. You can read about one of them (Kookoo?s Nest beach) in this page.

Kookoo's Nest
The Kookoo?s nest is a resort operated by Jamie & Nikki Ingram, a nice British couple. Nicky works most of the year as a cook for British rock bands when they are on tour, and the rest of the year she works as a scuba diving instructor in the Kookoo?s Nest resort.
The resort is located on an isolated beach, and usually there aren?t that many visitors there, so you can enjoy the quiet, sea, good food and Nicky?s stories. You can also take a diving course if you are interested.
