The city Pyay, know also as Prome is situated in the middle of the way between Bagan and Yangoon and it is recommended to stop there on the way back. There are several interesting things to see in the city and surrounding area, among them Shwesandaw village, which you can read about separately.

Shwesandaw Paya

Shwesandaw temple is situated at the center of the city. The temple is situated on top of a hill and two elevators (and few steps) bring the believers up to the temple.

The meaning of the name is ?remain of the golden hair? and the belief is that few of Buddha?s hair are in the place.

The temple is one of the holiest temples in Burma.

In front of the temple there is Sehtatgyi temple (Sehtatgyi Paya) that means the Buddha of the ten floors. In the place there is a huge Buddha statue. In Shwesandaw temple you can look Buddha right in his eyes.
