Halong Bay - Vietnam Travel Information
Halong Bay extends over 1500 sq km of the Gulf of Tonkin at the north-east corner of Vietnam, with over 3000 islands in its waters. The islands are mostly formed out of limestone rocks, and rise up to 200 meters above sea level.

Visiting Halong Bay
Due to the complicated logistics, the way to tour in the bay is with an organized tour that includes everything (food, accommodation, transportation and entrance fee). Those kinds of tours are offered by different travel agencies in Hanoi. It is possible to get there independently but it will only increase your costs.
